The SSC MTS exam is conducted in two stages. The first stage, Paper 1, is an objective-type test, while the second stage involves the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST), applicable only for Havaldar applicants.

As per the latest pattern, the exam consists of 90 questions worth a total of 270 marks. Questions are available in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages for both Session 1 and the General Awareness section of Session 2. Candidates earn three marks for each correct answer. While Session 1 has no negative marking, Session 2 deducts one mark for every incorrect response.
