The Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, will confer honorary doctorate degree to the honourable President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, on Tuesday, October 10, as per the Education Ministry. The Tanzanian president is on a four-day visit to India, and she arrived here on Sunday. The M ministry of Education announced the development through an official post on X (formerly Twitter) today. 


“H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the first woman President of Tanzania, will be honored with an Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) by Jawaharlal Nehru University for her pivotal role in fostering stronger India-Tanzania relations, promoting economic diplomacy, and achieving success in regional integration and multilateralism. She proudly acknowledges herself as a "product of Indian education" , attributing it to her ITEC training at NIRD, Hyderabad. This prestigious event will be graced by Hon'ble Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and Hon'ble Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S Jaishankar,” the education ministry said on X. 



Earlier today, the Tanzanian President also met Prime Minister Modi, holding wide-ranging talks with an emphasis on strengthening bilateral ties. PM Modi also shed light on the discussions with the Tanzanian President on X. “Had an excellent meeting with PresidentSamia Suluhu Hassan. We reviewed the full range of India-Tanzania relations and have elevated our time-tested relation to a Strategic Partnership. The areas of our discussion included trade, commerce and people-to-people linkages,” PM Modi said on X.

“India and Tanzania are keen to explore new avenues of cooperation in sectors such as education, skill development and IT. At the same time, we want to further deepen linkages in areas like water resources, agriculture and healthcare, where we are working closely at present,” PM Modi said in another post on X.  


The Tanzanian President also met Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan earlier today. “Thanked H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan for hosting IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania and also shared India’s keenness to work closely with Tanzania on advancing its education and skilling priorities,” Dharmendra Pradhan said in a post on X, after meeting the President of Tanzania. 


Later in the evening today, the honourable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu also hosted a banquet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the honour of her Tanzanian counterpart. The honourable Vice-President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar and Dr Sudesh Dhankhar also attended the banquet hosted by the honourable president.
