New Delhi: Delhi deputy chief minister and education minister Manish Sisoda on Sunday said that in the wake of violence in the national capital over Citizenship Amendment Act, all schools in south east Delhi will remain shut on Monday. According to Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia, all government and private schools in Okhla, Jamia Nagar, New Friends Colony, Madanpur Khadar areas of south east Delhi district will remain closed tomorrow.

The announcement came in the wake of unprecedented violence that erupted following protests in Jamia Nagar, against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Several buses were burnt as violent mobs clashed with the police in south Delhi on Sunday.

The people in the national capital witnessed violence this evening over the new citizenship law as a protest march by the students of Jamia Millia Islamia ended in a pitched battle with the police. Petrol bombs targeted police personnel, ordinary citizens and the media as a raging mob that seized parts of south Delhi refused to let go.

Despite a police flag march in the Jamia Nagar area, and tear gas used to disperse stone pelting protestors, five hours since demonstrators turned violent and clashed with police, anger still seethes. A violent mob continues to clash witha large contingent of police personnel hurling stones at the media. Jamia metro station area has turned into a war zone.
