In response to the deteriorating condition of a government high school in Panchayat Rassain, under Ghordi block, Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, parents of the students took action and locked the school. Parents locked the school to protest against the unsafe state of the school building.

“128 students are studying in this school. The building is unsafe. We will identify a safe place/building to conduct their classes and ensure that their studies are not affected,” said Krishan Dutt, Zonal Education and Planning Officer, Ghordi.

Acknowledging the action taken by the parents, Arti Sharma, Chairman of Block Development Council Ghordi, said, "The parents have locked the school as the building is unsafe and not in a condition to accommodate the students. I raised their issue in the council meeting as well. Their demand is genuine and should be fulfilled."

In a distressing incident that occurred in May in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, five students were injured when a window grill from their classroom collapsed on them. The incident resulted in the sudden detachment of the window grill, which also brought down a portion of concrete, causing injuries to the students.

In another significant development, a class 3 student named Seerat Naaz from Kathua posted a video on social media, appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure basic facilities at her school. The video quickly gained traction and was widely shared on social media platforms. In response to her plea, the Jammu and Kashmir administration took action and initiated efforts to improve the conditions of her school.
