Haryana Govt Announces Winter Vacation In Schools From January 1 To 15

The winter vacation will last 15 days and will conclude on January 15, 2024.

Due to the prevailing cold-wave conditions across most parts of Haryana and Punjab, the Haryana government has declared winter vacation for all government and private schools from January 1 to January 15, 2024. "In response to the escalating cold, the Haryana government has announced winter vacation for all government and private schools across the state from January 1 to January 15, 2024. Throughout this period, all schools will be closed," the CMO said on X.

"Ludhiana emerged as the coldest place in both states, registering a minimum temperature of 2.8 degrees Celsius. Ambala, Narnaul, Rohtak, Bhiwani, and Sirsa also experienced severe cold, with minimum temperatures ranging from 6.4 to 6.9 degrees Celsius. Chandigarh, serving as the joint capital, reported a low of 6 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Karnal recorded a temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Patiala marked 4.8 degrees Celsius, while Amritsar hit 6.4 degrees Celsius.

Faridkot experienced intense cold at 4.2 degrees Celsius, Bathinda at 4.6 degrees Celsius, and Ferozepur at 4.5 degrees Celsius. Hisar in Haryana recorded a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department's weather report indicated a widespread cold spell in these regions, prompting the government to announce an extended winter break for schools.

Delhi schools will be closed for Winter Vacations from January 1 to January 6, 2023, according to an order issued by the Directorate of School Education. The duration of the break has been reduced to six days due to prior closures during periods of heightened pollution in the National Capital.

In response to the implementation of GRAP III in Delhi amid escalating pollution levels, there's a possibility of schools transitioning to online learning. A press release from the PIB suggests that State Governments in the NCR and GNCTD regions might consider discontinuing in-person classes for children up to Class V and shift to conducting classes through online platforms.
