G20 Summit India: All Schools And Colleges In Delhi To Remain Closed From September 8 To 10 - Minister Atishi

The closure of educational institutions in Delhi comes following the G20 Summit 2023 India, which will be held on September 9 and 10, 2023, in the national capital.

Delhi Minister Atishi has announced that all schools, colleges as well as offices in the national capital shall remain closed from September 8 to September 10, 2023. "In view of the G20 summit, all schools, colleges and offices will remain closed across Delhi from September 8 to September 10," the Delhi Minister said. The closure of education institutions comes following the G20 Summit 2023 India, which will be held on September 9 and 10, 2023. The summit will take place at the Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre (IECC), New Delhi.

Notably, the G20 Summit 2023 will see heads of nations, senior officials and bureaucrats of member nations, as well as members of various international organisations gather in New Delhi. Considering the VVIP presence and movement in the national capital, the Union as well as the Delhi government have laid out various security measures to ensure that the Summit is conducted in a smooth, peaceful, and hassle-free manner. 

The Delhi government on September 5, 2023, released a gazetted notification announcing the restrictions laid out in the national capital, in the run up to the upcoming G20 Summit 2023. The curbs chalked out for the G20 Summit India include stringent restrictions on traffic movement in place from September 7 to 10, 2023. The curbs also include prohibition of Goods Vehicles, Buses, taxis, and three-wheeler Scooter Rickshaws on given dates. Various areas of the city have also been marked as ‘Controlled Zone,’ 'Additional Control Zone,' and ‘Regulated Zones’ with various specific restrictions/ advisory in place. 

Besides the movement restrictions, the Delhi police on September 5, 2023, also announced that commercial activities like deliveries from online services/ businesses including those from apps like Amazon, Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, and others will be barred in the New Delhi district during the G20 Summit. 

"Essential services such as postal and medical services, sample collections by path labs will be allowed throughout Delhi. In the New Delhi area, commercial activities will not be allowed. Online delivery services will not be allowed but medicine delivery will be allowed," said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SS Yadav during a press conference on September 5, 2023.
