Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cyber Police registered a case on Thursday following a social media announcement that the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) question paper and answer key were for sale, as reported by news agency PTI. Students who complete their MBBS studies abroad and wish to practice in India must pass the FMGE, conducted by the National Board of Examinations.
A state police spokesperson stated that the City Cyber Crime Police in Thiruvananthapuram have registered a case against groups advertising the sale of question papers for the July 6 exam on Telegram groups.
The case, registered under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024, marks the first of its kind in the state to be filed under this law, the spokesperson said in a statement.
To combat such fraud, the Cyber Division of the Police has initiated 24x7 cyber patrolling on social media platforms, including various Telegram channels, it added.

What Is FMGE Exam?
The Medical Council of India (MCI) Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, commonly known as FMGE, is a medical licensing examination established by the Screening Test Regulations, 2002. Conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), FMGE is a mandatory exam for Indian citizens or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders who have completed their medical education abroad and wish to practice in India. Passing FMGE is required to obtain provisional or permanent registration with the Medical Council of India (MCI) or any State Medical Council.

However, candidates who have completed their undergraduate medical education in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, or New Zealand are exempt from the FMGE, provided they are eligible to enroll as medical practitioners in those respective countries.
