New Delhi: Delhi government on Thursday announced that the private schools in the national capital can not coerce parents to purchase school uniforms, books, writing materials and other essentials from specific places. Instead, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration has asked private schools to list at least 5 shops from where the parents can purchase the essentials for their children.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced the rules and said that strict actions will be taken against those schools who will not follow the instructions.
In an issued public notice, the AAP government has said that apart from the class wise list of essentials, parents should also have the information regarding the wide-option of sources including the places to purchase the essentials.
"Parents must have the liberty to purchase such books, writing materials and uniforms from any place of their choice," reads the official public notice.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the AAP's first state chief outside of Delhi, had previously announced a similar decision.
According to the guidelines, schools can no longer force parents or kids to buy books, writing materials, or uniforms from any one vendor.
Schools have been instructed to provide a list of books and writing materials that will be offered in the upcoming session. In addition, schools have been requested to include uniform specifications.
“Private un-aided recognised schools in Delhi are run either by societies or trusts as a charitable organisaton on no profit no loss basis, thus no school activity must have any scope of profit and commercialization," read the official notice.
