With the ailing Air Quality Index (AQI) in the National Capital Region (NCR), all schools in Ghaziabad have been asked to switch to ‘online’ mode up to Class 9, till November 10, 2023. In an official order released today, the office of the District Magistrate Ghaziabad, asked all schools in the district to suspend offline classes up to Class 9, and switch to the online learning mode, till November 10, 2023. 


Notably, in a similar move earlier today, the Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration asked all schools in Noida to go online up to class 9, till November 10. The move from the Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration comes following the implementation of the Graded Responses Action Plan Stage-IV (GRAP Stage-IV).

In the light of the deteriorating AIR Quality Index (AQI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and others, district administrations have invoked different measures to keep school going children away from being exposed to the severe pollution. 


Besides Ghaziabad and Noida though, the respective administrations of other areas of the National Capital Region have been following similar moves to restrict the exposure of school going children to the severe air pollution. 


Earlier yesterday, the Government of Delhi released an official order announcing closure of offline classes in all public and private schools in Delhi, except for Classes 9 and 10. The order asked schools in the national capital to switch to ‘online’ learning mode to ensure that students are noy deprived of their learning.

The Delhi government’s order was followed by similar directives from the district administrations of Gurugram and Faridabad, respectively. The Gurugram district administration suspended physical classes up to Class 5 in all schools in Gurugram till further notice. Faridabad Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh has also directed closure of all schools in Faridabad from October 7 to October 12, 2023, as reported by PTI.
