In the light of the severe pollution in the national capital region, the Delhi Government has preponed the winter break in Delhi Schools. As per the official notice, Delhi Schools will now have early winter break from November 9. The move from the Delhi government comes in the backdrop of the implementation of Graded Responses Action Plan Stage-4 (GRAP Stage-4) measures in the national capital, in the wake of the ‘Severe Plus’ air quality led by worsening air pollution.
“In the wake of implementation of GRAP-IV measures due to Severe + Air Quality prevailing in Delhi and seeing that no respite from such adverse weather conditions in near future is predicted by the IMD, the Winter Break for the session 2023-24 is ordered to be preponed so that schools can be totally closed and both children and teachers can stay at home. Accordingly, all schools shall observe Winter Break wef. 09th November 2023 (tomorrow) to 18th November 2023 (Saturday),” reads the official notice from the Directorate of Education, Delhi.
Notably, it’s been almost a week now since the Delhi government started rolling out plans to safeguard school going children from direct exposure to the severe pollution. Following a two-day closure of schools announced by CM Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday, last week, Delhi Schools are operating online classes at the moment for all classes except for Classes 10 and 12.
An official order released by the Delhi Government on November 6, asked all schools in Delhi to conduct online classes for all classes except for Class 10 and 12, till November 10. Besides Delhi, respective district administrations of adjoining areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) like Gurugram, Faridabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Ghaziabad, have also announced similar directives asking schools to go online, in the wake of intense air pollution.
