CUET UG Exam Analysis 2024, May 15: Check Detailed Subject-Wise Review By Experts

CUET UG Paper Analysis 2024: As per experts, some sections of the first-day paper demanded critical thinking and problem-solving, while others tested foundational knowledge.

The National Testing Agency commenced the CUET UG 2024 exams on May 15, 2024. The NTA is conducting the CUET UG 2024 Exam all across India. On day 1, the exam was conducted in 4 shifts for different papers: Chemistry, Biology, English and General Test, in pen and paper format. CUET is the most important exam for students aspiring to take admission in different undergraduate courses in various esteemed central universities across the country. In this article, we will analyse the CUET exam held on May 15 to determine the difficulty level and the number of good attempts. 

Here is the detailed analysis of each subject: 

Chemistry: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM (Shift 1A) 

The CUET 2024 Chemistry paper presented a moderate level of difficulty, posing challenges in time management, especially with numerical questions from physical chemistry. Approximately 70% of the questions were complex, requiring deeper understanding. The paper adhered to the 12th-grade NCERT syllabus for 2021–2022. About 50% of the questions focused on organic chemistry, covering name reactions and the arrangement of organic compounds based on their acidic or basic strength.

Question formats included single correct answers, two comprehension passages (each containing five questions), arrange-in-the-correct order questions, and five match-the-columns questions. This year's paper had fewer straightforward questions compared to the previous year, with an increase in more intricate ones.

Biology: 12:15 PM – 1:00 PM (Shift 1B) 

The overall difficulty level of the Biology CUET paper was easy to moderate. It comprised concept-based questions that closely aligned with the 12th-grade NCERT syllabus. About 50% of the questions posed moderate difficulty, while 40% were easy, and 10% were deemed difficult. The majority of the questions were straightforward, with only a handful being classified as tough. Question types included single correct answers, two comprehension passages (each containing five questions), arrange-in-the-correct order questions, and nine match-the-columns questions.

This year, there was an increased emphasis on concept-based and application-based questions compared to the previous years. Additionally, the paper featured more statement-based questions focusing on application-based concepts and fewer questions from chapters that were deleted from the syllabus.

English: 3:00 PM – 3:45 PM (Shift 2A) 

The overall difficulty level of the English exam was moderate. It included 25 reading comprehension questions, divided among four passages (6+6+6+7). The paper featured both narrative and factual reading comprehension passages.

The literary aptitude section covered prepositions and adverbs, while other questions focused on synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, idioms, phrasal verbs, and jumbled phrases. Notably, there were no questions regarding foreign vocabulary, reported speech, or active and passive voice, which were part of the exam last year. Moreover, unlike in 2023, this year's exam omitted questions based on the letter-writing section.

General Test: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM (Shift 2B)

The General Test featured a well-rounded selection of questions. The Quantitative and Logical Reasoning sections ranged from easy to moderate difficulty, while the General Knowledge/General Studies (GK/GS) section presented a more significant challenge, falling within the moderate to difficult spectrum. The general awareness questions proved challenging for students due to the uncommon nature of the facts asked, which are typically not revisited during preparation.

Furthermore, the inclusion of general knowledge questions from previous years (2022 and 2023), unexpected for many, added to the overall difficulty level. The exam comprised 25 GK/GS questions, 17 Quantitative Reasoning questions, and 18 Logical Reasoning questions, encompassing various formats such as statement-based questions, match-the-following questions, and single correct answer questions, providing a comprehensive assessment of the candidates' abilities.

In summary, the CUET (UG) 2024 exam presented a blend of challenges and opportunities. While some sections demanded critical thinking and problem-solving, others tested foundational knowledge.
