In an address to the media and citizens, CM Kejriwal stated that Delhi has 1,000 government schools and 1,700 private schools.

He informed that to begin with, all schools will not be asked to adopt the new board at once - 20 to 25 government schools will be removed from CBSE for them to be made a part of the new state education board in the coming academic year.

The schools to be brought under the state board will be decided after discussion with school principals.

The Chief Minister talked about his government's work in detail as he lauded how schools have gotten better infrastructure and various steps/initiatives were undertaken to ensure better performance.

Elaborating on the objectives of the government, he said "our first motive is to prepare children who are staunch patriots with the spirit to die for the nation.... We have to prepare them to handle the responsibilities of various sectors".

Secondly, they should be good people irrespective of religion and other such factors, he said.

In the third point, he talked about how youth is unemployed despite having major qualifications. "What is the use of such education?" he remarked. The board will create a framework that prepares children to stand on their feet so that their employment is readily available for them when they complete education.

"Our education system relies on rote learning, cram, and put it all out in 3 hours at the end of the year. We have to change this. We need to emphasise learning," he said informing how the students will be assessed throughout the year.

It was informed that the state education system has been prepared on par with international standards, having collaborated with agencies abroad and studying the system followed in other countries.

The Delhi government had last July constituted two committees to prepare the framework for the formation of the state education board.
