As per the latest development announced by Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Thursday, the aspirants would now only need to qualify JEE Main 2020 examination and have a 12th passing certificate in order to be eligible for admission into the NITs and other technical institutes.
Taking to the Twitter, Pokhriyal said, "For admissions in NITs & other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, apart from qualifying JEE Main, the eligibility is to secure a minimum of 75% marks in XII Board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations. Due to prevailing circumstances, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for admissions to NITs and other CFTIs."
He went on to announce that JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will now only need to obtain a passing certificate in Class XII examination irrespective of the marks obtained.
The National Testing Agency or NTA in March decided to postpone the Joint Entrance Exams from April 2020 to July 2020. The new dates of the exams were decided as from July 18 to July 23, 2020, in the notice issued on 22 May 2020. However, the dates for the JEE examination were further postponed to September in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases.

"Keeping in mind the safety of students and to ensure quality education we have decided to postpone JEE and NEET examinations. JEE-Main examination will be held between September 1-6, while JEE-advanced exam will be held on September 27. NEET examination will be held on September 13," said Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
According to sources, the counselling for the two crucial exams will begin in October and freshers may begin classes by November end or December first week. However, a definite plan has not been drawn yet.
