Ironically, a majority of students put their 99% efforts towards their major subjects and neglect English only to score moderately. A smart exam warrior knows which subject/topic can fetch him/her maximum marks with minimal effort, and English is definitely one.
Here’s a run through of CBSE Class 12th English Core paper to understand each section and know what the evaluator will be testing you for. Acing these key criterion will help you score a perfect 100 in English Class 12th Exam and boost your overall Aggregate score:
Section A – Reading
Section A will comprise of Two Comprehension passages carrying 20 marks and 10 marks.
The first comprehension passage will comprise of Question and Answers, which can be attempted and scored fully if you have a clear understanding of the passage. To score well in the unseen passage, you must read it thoroughly and answer in context with the passage.
The second comprehension passage will focus on your note-making skills. Make sure you do not write full sentences in your Notes, and your answer should be divided into Headings and Subheadings.
Remember, your Note must begin with a Title, followed by minimum 3 headings and subheadings and usage of abbreviations or symbols, with or without key.
Section B – Advanced Writing Skills
Through the advanced writing skills, the evaluator aims to test your style of writing, expression, creative ideation, grammatical accuracy, your way with words, allusions, tones; and your understanding of format for different write-ups viz Poster, Notice, Debate, Speech, Complaint, Letter, Article, Report, etc.
While you must be absolutely familiar with the format for all that’s in your syllabus, the rest of things that matter come only with practice. Master some latest topics, as time and again, current issues take the centre-stage in the Advanced Writing Skills section that comprises of 4 questions carrying a choice in each.
Your content should be well organized, creatively activated and articulate.
Section C – Literature (Text Book & Long Read)
This section aims to test your understanding of the prescribed text books and long reading text aka novel. The first question in this section will be a small comprehension passage from the text book, usually a stanza from a poem. The rest of the section comprises of 4 short answer questions that you have to choose from a total of 6. Followed by 2 long answer questions with a choice in each from the Main Course book, and 2 long answer questions with a choice in each from the Long Text book. The long answers aim to gauge your play with coherence and relevance of ideas and style, and to test your usage of appropriate words, spellings and grammatical accuracy.
To score full in the Literature section, it will be needless to say that you must know the short stories, poem, essays and novel well. Know the storyline of each chapter and memorize the key events, to write answers that correlate well to the lesson they belong to.
