CBSE Class 10th Board Exams: These 5 tips can help you choose right career stream after 10th standard
It is important for students and their parents to make the right decision for the stream a student enrols into after Class
CBSE Class 10th Board Exams 2019: The Indian education system is based on 10+2+3 scheme till Graduation. Class 10th is a crucial milestone in a student’s life. Students make every effort to do their best in the class 10th board exams. Once the result is declared, another key decision is to be made at this juncture, i.e. to choose the right stream. It is important for students and their parents to make the right decision as the stream a student enrols into after class 10th decides the professional degree courses s/he’ll enrol into during graduation.
There are three broad streams a student can choose from after class 10th viz Science, Commerce and Humanities. It is imperative to choose the right stream after class 10th board exams, as your stream is primarily going to decide the career roles and choices that will be available for you after graduation. Here are five things you can consider while deciding to choose the right stream after class 10th.
Know the Strengths
Parents must sit together to figure out the key strengths of their wards. If a child has excellent oration or writing skills, s/he can pick Humanities and enrol for Mass Communication or journalism or Masters in English in due course of time. On the other hand, someone with high aptitude can make a rewarding career in engineering for which opting for the Science stream is the right path. Someone keen on making a career in computers or artificial intelligence must choose Science with Computer Science as a subject.
There are students who are not too good with churning good percentages in academics, however, they are gifted in arts/drawings/cooking or sports. The concept of Multiple Intelligence (MI) has been there lately. Parents must identify such strengths because IQ is not the only type of intelligence. If your ward is great at drawing or painting, enrol him/her in Humanities and let them hone their skills, to be a teacher or lecturer as they grow.
Know the Stream
Once you’ve identified your strengths, it is time to dive deep into the stream and the syllabus that ensues. It won’t be wrong to go through the books of various streams and figure out what interests you the most and which subject you’ll be able to master in the long run.
Foresee the Future
The student must be able to decide for himself or herself what career s/he wants to make in his life. If s/he wants to be an astronaut or wishes to join the armed forces, then Science stream (PCM) is mandatory, on the other hand, if s/he aims to be a marketing champ, then Commerce can pave the way to BBA and MBA, three to five years down the line. Have an open career discussion with your child. Jot down realistic future career goals and join the dots backwards.
Never Pressurize
Parents must never pressurize their ward into choosing a stream that they have either no interest in or they lack the aptitude to pursue the same. The child’s interest matters the most while choosing a career path and hence the stream after class 10th. Parents must refrain from fulfilling their unfulfilled dreams via their children. If you aspired to be a doctor, but couldn’t become one, then in moral propriety you must not expect your child to become a doctor at the cost of his intrinsic interest in something else. Remember, the major reason for students’ suicide is parental pressure.
Money Matters
Last but a very practical side of life, Money! Education today is expensive. It can be challenging for a middle-class man to pay high educational fees required for professional engineering or medical courses. If your child is otherwise intelligent, but money is a hindrance, then you can guide the child to take Commerce stream and set his target on becoming a Chartered Accountant.
Alternatively, your ward can opt for the stream of his/her choice and prepare side by side for Civil Services exams. These are highly rewarding careers and doesn’t cost a bomb like other professional courses. The internet is full of success stories of children from the marginal sections of the society who’ve put their heart and soul and topped IAS, IPS, Judicial Services, Bank PO, SSC, CDS, NDA, CA, CS and other professional exams.
