BSE Odisha 10th Result 2019: The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha announced the Annual HSC Exam Results 2019 today in a Press Conference preceded by Pradipta Mohapatra, Secretary, School and Mass Education Department, Government of Odisha. The overall pass percentage for class 10th students has dipped by more than 5% with 70.78% students passing their exams in 2019 vis a vis 76.23% qualifying 10th class in 2018.

More than two-fold increase in the schools reporting Zero% results is furthermore alarming, as this year, in 82 schools of Odisha not even a single student could clear his/her class 10th annual board exams. The number has soared from 36 schools recording Zero pass percentage in 2018.

While speaking to media, Mr. Mohapatra cited crackdown on mass cheating miscreants, preventive measures and tight security, the main reasons for decline in the pass percentage this year. The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha had installed CCTV cameras in examination centres, besides instructing ban on mobile phones for everyone including invigilators. The question papers were transported amidst tight security. As many as four sets of question papers were devised so as to curb cheating amongst students, plus students were allotted exam centers other than their regular schools.

However, as soon as the Class 10th Odisha Board exams 2019 commenced, screenshots of Mother India Language (Odia) paper had started doing rounds on social media platforms in two districts viz Dhenkanal and Nuapada. Eight centre superintendents and invigilators were suspended for indulging in malpractices.

This was not the end of cheating menace in the state, the English paper too had made way to social media platforms and soon after parents in Dhenkanal and Bolangir districts headed straight to the examination centres to help their wards. As per local reports by Odisha Sun Times, “Candidates in the examination halls of Ghunsar High School of Bolangir were aided with paper balls rolled into chits thrown into the halls by locals perched on the compound wall around the school’s perimeter.” Similar incidents were reported at Panchayatiraj Govt. High School in Palaspitha, Dhenkanal.

Furthermore, answer sheets of Mathematics of 108 students had gone missing.

BSE had formed a committee to look into these issues that involved over 500 students of the state. However, as per various reports, the committee could not arrive at any decision.

The BSE Odisha AHSC Exams 2019 were in the news for all the wrong reasons while the exams were being held. While a detailed analysis of school-wise and district-wise marks is awaited, the rise in zero results has raised questions on the education being imparted in such schools in the state of Odisha.
