ARWU Ranking 2021: Shanghai Ranking Consultancy has released the Academic Ranking of World University (ARWU) 2021. IISc Bangalore has been ranked as the best university in the country while Calcutta University has been ranked second in the 2021 ARWU ranking. The 2021 ARWU released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy is one of the premier and globally recognized rankings of higher educational institutions.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has congratulated all the teachers, administrative staff, and students of Calcutta University for finishing second in the ARWU rankings. On the other hand, the VC of Calcutta University said, “This success and international recognition should be seen as a result of the sustained efforts of our brilliant faculty, dedicated research scholars, sincere non-teaching colleagues as well as our bright students. "
ARWU Ranking 2021 - which Indian universities made it to the list
ARWU reviews about 1,000 universities and educational institutes in the world every year. In India, Banaras Hindu University has been ranked third this time. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi secures the fourth position. The fifth rank goes to the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Indian Institute of Technology Madras is ranked sixth and Jawaharlal Nehru University is seventh. Delhi University has got the eighth position and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has been ranked ninth and the Vellore Institute of Technology completes the top ten.
Harvard University ranked No. 1 in world university rankings
In the World University rankings, Harvard University has been ranked as the best university in the world, with Stanford and Cambridge University ranked second and third respectively. Eight universities in the top 10 list are from the US while two are from the UK.
