• Global winners win £30,000 (approx. INR 30 lakhs), alongside high-profile recognition for their idea and National winners will receive £5,000 (approx. INR 5 lakhs)

  • The James Dyson Award entries close in a month! The closing deadline for the Award is July 19, 2023.

The James Dyson Award, an annual engineering competition with a sustainability focus run by Dyson’s charity, is drawing near to its closing dates, i.e., July 19, 2023. With just one month left, aspiring young innovators and problem-solvers who have ideas to improve our planet and urge to seize this final opportunity to submit their entries before the deadline approaches.

Since 2005, the Award has challenged entrepreneurial undergraduates and recent graduates of engineering to tackle a global problem, from environmental issues to improving healthcare practices. Past winners have developed solutions to advance plastic recycling (Plastic Scanner) and the biodegradability of materials (MarinaTex, AuREUS), as well as bettering at-home medical diagnostics (Blue Box, HOPES).

Sir James Dyson, Founder, said:

“We are looking for young engineers who are hard-wired to solve problems sustainably, often using less energy and fewer materials, and who want to improve the world through their ideas. Young people have ideas that can change things for the better, and they should be encouraged. The James Dyson Award gives them the platform to pursue their inventions, and I look forward to judging this year’s entries. Good luck!”

The James Dyson Awards are open to individuals, teams of students, or recent graduates from graduate engineering/design-related courses, offering a unique opportunity to bring their innovative ideas to life. By focusing on inventive and practical solutions, participants have the chance to contribute to a better and more sustainable future.

All you have to do is design something that solves a problem. This problem may be a frustration that we all face in daily life or a global issue. The important thing is that the solution is effective and demonstrates considered design thinking.

The judging process begins with a national-level evaluation, conducted by a panel of external judges and a Dyson engineer. The national winner of India will be awarded £5,000 (approximately INR 5 lakh) as a testament to their exceptional ideas and efforts. And, Global winners will receive a significant cash prize of £30,000 (approximately INR 30 lakhs), along with gaining valuable exposure and recognition for their groundbreaking concept. This recognition can pave the way for further opportunities and collaborations in the world of design and engineering.
