Over 1,500 students from the violence-hit north-eastern state of Manipur have been shifted to Mizoram schools, Mizoram Education Director Lalsangliana was reported as saying by news agency PTI. The education director further said the displaced children will be given free admission into government schools. In the wake of the ongoing violence in Manipur, such students from Manipur were allowed to enrol in Mizoram schools, even if they could not produce required documents, he further added. 


In the meantime, Mizoram Home Commissioner and Secretary H Lalengmawia underlined that the state will need monetary aid from the centre to provide assistance and relief to over 11,800 displaced children from Manipur. 


The home commissioner also apprised the meeting of the executive committee on internally displaced people of Manipur on Tuesday, that he along with some other officials and Tourism Minister Robert Romawia Royte reached out to Delhi to seek monetary assistance in this regard.

The Mizoram government has seeked an assistance of Rs 10 crore from the centre, he added. The meeting was convened to review the situation and draft a framework for the relief and assistance of the displaced people. It was also decided in the meeting that instead of shelters, the displaced people should be kept in suitable government buildings after emptying them. 


It was further decided in the meeting that funds shall be raised through donations from the public and contributions from like-minded legislators to provide releif to the displaced people. The 11,870 displaced people from violence-torn Manipur have reportedly taken refuge in all 11 districts of Mizoram. 


The Kolasib district in North Mizoram is currently home to the highest number of displaced people from Manipur with 4,292 people. Aizawl and Saitual stand next in line with 3,866, and 2,905 people, respectively. Among all the people from Manipur, the remaining 816 have taken shelter in Champhai, Lunglei, Mamit, Khawzawl, Hnahthial, Serchhip, Siaha and Lawngtlai districts. 


The Mizoram state government and local villages and local village authorities have also set up around 35 relief camps in the districts of Aizawl, Saitual and Kolasib. The state government and local residents along with NGOs, and Churches are providing food and assiatnce to the displaced people.
