A 24-year-old woman named Pooja Yadav was allegedly shot dead by a man at her house in the southeast Delhi's Jaitpur area, police said on Saturday. The victim's mother and brother were also present inside the house when the incident happened. The accused pumped four bullets into the woman on Friday night, reported news agency PTI.
Police have arrested the attacker, identified as Rocky from Haryana's Faridabad.
The motive behind the killing was Pooja's "illicit" relationship with Rocky's elder brother, Krishna Pradhan, a real estate dealer, who has four children, said the police. The accused disapproved of the relationship between the two and decided to kill her.
"Rocky told us that his elder brother was already married with four children. Because of his relationship with Yadav, his sister-in-law and mother would often fight with Pradhan. This led him to kill Yadav," said a police officer to PTI.
Pooja lived with her parents and younger brother in Ekta Vihar locality of southeast Delhi's Jaitpur Extention' and was employeed at Pradhan's office in Basantpur Village, Faridabad.
However, Pooja, who had done a beauty parlour course left the job at Pradhan's office seven months back due to objections to her relationship with him by his family members.
"She was playing with kids outside her house before she was attacked by a person who came on a motorcycle. I was in the house with my mother. As soon as Pooja entered the house, the man opened fire at her," Pooja's brother Manoj told PTI.
He also said that he tried to chased Rocky after the attack, but he pointed his gun at him and threatened to kill him too.
Rocky then fled on foot, leaving behind his motorcycle, which did not have a number plate, police said.
