A woman died due to electrocution on New Delhi railway station premises on Sunday, reported news agency ANI citing Delhi police. The body of the woman has been sent to Lady Hardinge Hospital for postmortem and a probe is underway. Police said that an FSL team is also on the spot. The deceased woman has been identified as Sakshi Ahuja, a resident of Preet Vihar, Delhi who got electrocuted after grabbing an electric pole outside the New Delhi Railway Station.
She came here to catch the Bhopal Shatabdi train, as stated by ANI citing Delhi police. They added that there was waterlogging outside the Railway Station. Prima facie the deceased grabbed the pole to avoid going in the water. Police have registered a case and further probe is underway.
"A complaint alleging the concerned authority for their negligence was received and a case u/s 287/304-A IPC was registered. FSL, Rohini team is inspecting the place of incident. The investigation is underway," said Delhi police officials, as quoted by ANI.
Meanwhile, the deceased woman's father, Lokesh Kumar Chopra, said, "We were going to Chandigarh. I was in the parking area when I received the info that my daughter Sakshi Ahuja has died due to electrocution. This has happened due to the negligence of the concerned authority."
This comes days after around 40 passengers on board the ill-fated Coromandel express are believed to have died of electrocution as they had no visible injury marks, said Government Railway Police. As per an FIR lodged at Government Railway Police Station at Balasore, live overhead wires which snapped when the accident occurred, entangled with a few coaches, electrocuting the passengers trapped in them, reported news agency PTI. The death toll in the triple train accident on Tuesday increased to 278 after three passengers succumbed to their injuries after being hospitalised.
