New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Shelly Oberoi, after being elected Delhi’s mayor on Wednesday, said the party will work on the ten guarantees given to the people by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Oberoi bagged 150 votes and defeated BJP candidate Rekha Gupta who got 116 votes.
“We have to work together to fulfil aspirations of the people,” Oberoi said.
“I assure you all that I will run this House in a constitutional manner. I expect you all will maintain the dignity of the House and cooperate in its smooth functioning,” Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi said after winning.
Taking to Twitter, CM Kejriwal wrote in Hindi, “Today in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, hooliganism was defeated and the people of Delhi won. Congratulations to the people of Delhi for electing Shelly Oberoi as Mayor."
The Delhi mayoral elections took place after three failed attempts and an intervention by the Supreme Court.

It is to be noted that the new Delhi Mayor is a first-time councillor from the East Patel Nagar ward. Oberoi had won the MCD civic election from ward no. 86 on December 7.
She had joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2013 and rose to become the vice president of its women's wing till 2020. The 39-year-old councillor was a visiting assistant professor at Delhi University (DU). Oberoi is also a lifetime member of the Indian Commerce Association (ICA).
Notably, she has received several awards at various conferences, including best paper awards in different national and international conferences, and also won a Gold medal (Prof Manubhai Shah Award) at ICA Conference.
