Two girls have been dead after a house caught fire in Sadar Bazar area of New Delhi, police said on Tuesday. The fire has reportedly been brought under control, a report in ANI said.


The fire department said they got a call about a fire at 2.07 pm and fire tenders were pressed into service.


According to a fire department statement, the fire took place at a residential house. "Fire fighters rescued some people from there. We also informed the police," a senior Fire department official said.


The two victims -- Gulashna (14) and Anaya (12) -- were trapped inside the first floor bathroom. They were taken to a hospital where doctors declared them dead, as per officials.


Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Kumar Meena said officers at Sadar Bazar police station received a call regarding the fire and rushed to the spot, a PTI repoort said.


"It was found that a house at Sadar Bazar's Chameliyan Road was engulfed in flames. Four fire tenders arrived brought the blaze under control," he said.


The building was filled with smoke and rescue teams were able to enter it with much difficulty, using gas masks, he added.


Fire officials said the two girls trapped in the bathroom were rescued by breaking the door and sent to a hospital. The fire has been doused and the cooling process is underway, they said and added that the blaze broke out in a recreational room. A crime team has been called and further proceedings are underway, the police added. 


Fire At Navi Mumbai Plant


Earlier on Tuesday, a fire erupted at a chemical plant in an industrial area of Navi Mumbai gutting two other factories in the vicinity. No one was injured in the blaze that broke out at a chemical unit in the MIDC in Pawne-Koparkhairne around 10.15 am.


Fire services from the MIDC and 14 fire engines of the fire stations around Koparkharine rushed to the spot and fought the blaze for four hours.
