Ajit Kumar, superintendent of Delhi's Tihar Jail, was suspended on Monday for allegedly providing VIP treatment to jailed Aam Aadmi Party minister Satyendar Jain, news agency ANI reported.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) claimed in court last week that Jain was receiving special treatment inside Tihar Jail.

"He has been found to have committed irregularities that warrant investigation," the Delhi government's prison department said, ANI reported.

The development comes after imprisoned conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar accused the Superintendent of jail number 7, where Jain is imprisoned, of extending improper favours.

In a letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sukesh Chandrasekhar stated, "I know Satyendra Jain since 2015... have contributed more than 50 crores to AAP." He claimed the money was paid in exchange for a Rajya Sabha seat.

The ED made the submission before Special Judge Vikas Dhull as it was wrapping up its arguments in opposition to Jain's plea in the money laundering case.

"Unknown people were giving Jain massages and foot massages after curfew. He received special food," stated S V Raju, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) representing the ED, news agency PTI reported.

The ASG provided the court with CCTV images and claimed that most of the time Jain was either in the hospital or in jail enjoying various facilities. On May 30, the 58-year-old Delhi minister was arrested.

Earlier this month, Director General (Prisons) Sandeep Goel was transferred from the Tihar Jail, days after incarcerated conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar alleged extortion of Rs 10 crore for protection in prison by Goel and Jain.

The allegations were dismissed by the Aam Aadmi Party as absurd and without foundation.
