A severed head of a buffalo was found on the road outside a temple in northeast Delhi's Welcome area on Friday, following which two people were arrested, North East Delhi Police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said that on Friday they received a call at 5:30 pm, the caller informed them that a severed head of a buffalo was found on the road outside a temple on Nala Road, West Gorakhpark in Welcome. Soon after the police nabbed 27-year-old Azeem and a boy aged 16, both residents of Babarpur in Delhi in connection with the incident.
According to news agency PTI, the police said that the accused were on a scooter and dropped the severed buffalo head on the road outside the temple. Soon after receiving the information, the buffalo head was removed and taken into possession by the police.
"Acting swiftly on the information that a severed head of a buffalo was found on a roadside under the Welcome police station, the police of the North East district have arrested two accused”, the senior officer said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the people to maintain peace and not to spread any kind of rumours.
"The police of the North East district have arrested two accused. People are urged to help the police maintain peace in the area. And don't spread any kind of rumour," said DCP, North East Delhi.
A case has been registered under sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc., of any value or any animal of the value of Rs 50 or more) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is underway, the DCP said, according to PTI.
