Delhi Police, NSG Conduct Joint Drill Across City After Bomb Threats To Schools: WATCH

In a joint operation with the National Security Guard, and Delhi Crime Team mock drills were conducted all over Delhi after bomb threat emails were sent to 200 Delhi-NCR schools.

Mock drills were conducted in schools in Delhi after several educational institutions received hoax bomb threat emails.

In a joint operation, the National Security Guards (NSG) conducted mock drills with Delhi Police, and Delhi Crime Team to ensure preparedness. These mock drills help the crime teams and NSG to prepare themselves to thwart any untoward incident.

The mock drills were not limited to schools as they were carried out in several places including, Kashmiri Gate and the new Parliament building. NSG commandos were dropped from an M17 helicopter on the roof of the Parliament building during the mock drill.

A Delhi Police source told IANS that the drills are being conducted at various sites such as metro stations, schools, temples, and government buildings.

On Thursday, the drill at the new Parliament building commenced at around 3 PM. and continued till 3:30 PM.

"Over 10 locations have been chosen for these drills, which will continue till late night," the IANS source was quoted as saying.

Mock drills were conducted in important areas of the city such as metro stations, that see a high traffic of passengers every day. 

Late night on Thursday, a security mock drill was conducted at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. A police official while speaking to the media said that there was no state of emergency or cause for panic. The police official said that a mock drill was being conducted and different agencies were working together in a terror attack simulation. 

On Thursday night, a mock drill was conducted at the Hyderabad House among several government buildings.

Emails To 200 Schools Of Bomb Threat

On Wednesday morning, around 200 schools in Delhi-NCR received a hoax bomb threat via email leading to widespread panic among students and parents. Authorities soon suspended classes and asked parents to pick their wards up from their schools. 

However, after schools reopened to normalcy on Thursday, attendance was low even in the schools that didn’t receive the threatening email, some principals told PTI. A fresh advisory was sent to parents to assure them that all guidelines – for handling bomb threats are now being followed by the administration. They also added the school premises were properly sanitised, and police are also constantly monitoring the security and safety of students and staff. 

Delhi Police also made an appeal to people on Thursday to not believe in audio messages that have surfaced on WhatsApp groups making false claims about the bomb threats, as per a PTI report.
