These Delhi Metro Stations To Remain Closed For Passengers Today In View Of New Parliament Inauguration

Passengers travelling through these metro stations will be able to interchange with ease while all entry and exit gates are closed due to the inauguration of the new Parliament building by PM Narendra Modi.

In light of the inauguration of the new Parliament House, all entry and exit gates of two metro stations are closed on Sunday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced. The gates of the Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan metro stations have been closed for passenger movement. However, passengers travelling through Central Secretariat will be able to interchange with ease. The step has been taken as a security measure due to the ongoing inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, Modi, dressed a traditional attire walked into the Parliament premises from its Gate No. 1 and was welcomed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Amid Vedic chants by priests from Karnataka's Shringeri Math, the Prime Minister performed "Ganapati Homam" to invoke Gods to bless the inauguration of the new Parliament building.

The Prime Minister prostrated before the "Sengol" and sought blessings from high priests of various adheenams in Tamil Nadu with the holy sceptre in hand.

Modi then carried the "Sengol" in a procession amid tunes of "nadaswaram" and chanting of Vedic mantras to the new Parliament building and installed it in a special enclosure on the right side of the Speaker's chair in the Lok Sabha chamber.

After which the ceremony began with prayers by representatives of various religious factions. PM Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers and Chief Ministers of different States attended a multi-faith prayer meeting.

The first phase of the new Parliament building inauguration has concluded while the second phase will begin at 12 noon.
