A woman was found dead on Friday with her hands and legs tied with metal chains near a municipal corporation-run school in west Delhi's Tilak Nagar area. Police officials told news agency PTI that the deceased was in her late 30s and her body was spotted by a passerby who informed the police at around 8:45 am. Forensic and crime teams visited the spot at the body was found. A team of doctors from the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital also accompanied the forensic team.
According to the police officials, the body was decomposed and it appeared that the killer or killers tried to disfigure her face. A police official told PTI, "The upper portion of the body was wrapped with a black plastic poly bag. She was wearing a one-piece knee-length gown. A sexual assault on the woman cannot be ascertained at this point in time."
Police added that the body was sent to a hospital and efforts were being made to identify the deceased.
According to PTI, police accessed CCTV footage from the spot that showed a few people coming in a car and dumping the body. A police official said that as per the footage, it appeared that the woman was already dead and her body was brought only to dump at the spot.
Police identified the vehicle's registration number and have launched a probe to nab the accused.
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal said that she has demanded a reply from Delhi police regarding the "heart-wrenching case." Maliwal tweeted, "A heart-wrenching case has come to light where a dead body of a girl was found with her hands and feet tied near a school in Tilak Nagar area. We have issued a notice to the police and sought their reply."
