The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday in connection with the alleged liquor scam after questioning him for 8.5 hours. Sisodia was named as an accused in the liquor case and was previously summoned for questioning. This was his second summons on Sunday, and the AAP leader was expecting to be arrested today. The CBI issued a statement stating that Sisodia was arrested because he was evasive in his answers.

• The case was filed against Sisodia, the excise minister, and 14 other people for alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the excise policy 2021-22.


• A chargesheet has been filed on 25.12.2022 against the CEO of a Mumbai-based private company and 6 others.


• On February 19, Sisodia was called to join the investigation, and he sought one week's notice, citing his preoccupation.


• He was summoned again after October 17, 2022, to answer questions he evaded during the last interview and to answer further questions about his incriminating role based on evidence collected during the case investigation.


• Despite being confronted with evidence to the contrary, he gave evasive replies and did not cooperate with the investigation. As a result, he has been arrested, according to the CBI.

Sisodia's detention is one of the most high-profile steps against an opposition leader since the June arrest of Satyendar Jain, Delhi's then-health minister. These ministers have led the Aam Aadmi Party's successful makeover of Delhi's education and health systems, which has contributed to the party's popularity and continuing electoral success.

Their removal from the cabinet would leave Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal without a heavyweight deputy to carry out his governance programme in the capital.

Sisodia will appear before the court. Sisodia is innocent, according to Kejriwal, and his arrest is political, which will further enhance the party because those who are observing everything are with the Aam Aadmi Party.
