Following Delhi LG VK Saxena's visit to the flood-hit Yamuna Bazar area on Tuesday, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj hit out at him by saying that he shouldn't play dirty politics. LG, after his visit to the affected areas earlier in the day, said that waterlogging has become a yearly ritual now and it occurs because sewage cleaning is not done and drain water is not treated properly. Bharadwaj charged him against these statements and said that LG took media everywhere six months back and claimed that all nalas, Yamuna were cleaned but now he is contradicting his own statement.

While talking to news agency ANI, the Delhi Minister said, "On 8th July, Delhi received 153 mm of rain but LG visited the affected areas on 11th July. Earlier, he took media everywhere in the past 6 months and claimed that all nalas and Yamuna were cleaned and today he denies all this. He should help the people of Delhi and not play dirty politics…people of Delhi wanted him to take up law and order but every day at least 4 murders occur in the national capital...He is only focused on stopping AAP from working..every BJP-ruled state is reeling under severe floods in the country. It is unfortunate that LG is not helping the city's residents."

LG Saxena earlier said, "Waterlogging has become a yearly ritual. Sewage cleaning is not done, drain water is not treated properly. Due to all these things which have been not done for years, waterlogging occurs. Desilting of Yamuna should be done regularly. Najafgarh drain desilting should be done regularly. I will try to see to it that attention is paid to all this so that people don't have to face this...Nature doesn't inform us in advance, we have to be prepared for it."

The water level in the Yamuna River has crossed the 'Evacuation Mark' of 206 metres prompting authorities to shift people living in nearby areas to safer locations.
