The presentation of the Delhi government's budget before the Assembly on Tuesday, according to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has been postponed by the Centre, news agency PTI reported.


The AAP shared a video of Kejriwal appearing on a News 18 show on Monday, during which he stated that the Delhi budget will not be introduced on Tuesday.






He said that the Centre was engaging in "gundagardi," and that for the first time in the country's history, a government's budget had been halted.

"You will be astounded. This has never happened in the country's history. Tomorrow morning, the Delhi budget must be presented before the Delhi legislature. The Government has halted the presentation of the Delhi budget. The budget will not be delivered tomorrow morning. Employees of the Delhi government, as well as doctors and teachers, would not be paid," CM Kejriwal said in an interview with News 18 India.


According to sources in the Delhi government, the Ministry of Home Affairs has halted the Kejriwal administration's budget, which will not be introduced before the Assembly on Tuesday.

According to sources in the lieutenant governor's office, the LG approved the Annual Financial Statement for 2023-2024 on March 9 and forwarded the file to the chief minister.


After that, the Delhi government sought the President's consent, as required by law, by submitting a letter to the Home Ministry.


On March 17, the Home Ministry communicated its concerns to the Delhi administration. The LG office is waiting for the chief minister to send the paperwork to it.


There is still no word on when the budget will be submitted to the Assembly. The Assembly's current budget session is expected to end on March 23.


At the present budget session of the Delhi Assembly, Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot filed an outcome budget of the Kejriwal government as well as an economic review, 2022-23, report.


The Assembly was adjourned earlier in the day until 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
