Members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) staged a protest on Saturday outside Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler over the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots case. During the protest, a minor clash erupted between DSGMC members and Delhi Police who were standing guard outside the Rouse Avenue Court. As per news agency ANI, Police have closed the entry gate of the courtroom due to security reasons. The Rouse Avenue Court granted the Congress leader an anticipatory bail on Friday in the same case and today, the members of DSGMC are protesting against that court order.
BJP leader RP Singh who was also a part of the protest said, "Grant of bail in such serious cases is a setback to justice. We will move the High Court."
Protestors were seen stomping on Tytler's pictures and hitting it with slippers to symbolise their dissent and anger.
Jagdish Tytler is accused of leading a mob in the 1984 Pul Bangash case in which three members of the Sikh community were killed. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had given a clean chit to the Congress leader in the case, however, it re-opened the investigation following a December 4, 2015 order. Over the past few years, the Congress party has tried to maintain a distance from Tytler especially after he started to face legal trouble with regard to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots following the assassination of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards that left thousands dead in sectarian violence.
