Ghazipur Landfill Fire: MCD, Fire Department Working To Control Blaze, Says AAP MP Sanjay Singh

As thick smoke billows from the biggest landfill in Delhi, AAP MP Sanjay Singh assured people that the MCD and fire department would control the fire soon. The fire at the landfill started Sunday.

The entire fire department, along with officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, is working on bringing the fire at the Ghazipur landfill under control, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh has said, adding that the blaze would be tamed very soon. 

The Ghazipur landfill fire began on Sunday evening and continued throughout the night even as fire officials worked to bring the blaze under control. As of Monday morning, thick smoke could still be seen billowing out of the landfill.

Delhi Fire Services said the fire started because of the gas produced by the landfill. There have been no reports of any casualties.

When asked about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) blaming AAP for the fire, Singh said, “Forget about the BJP.”

The BJP, he added, “is the most corrupt party in the entire country and has included all the corrupt leaders in their party".

“They have killed democracy and they are planning to change the Constitution now. BJP is also planning to end reservation and elections,” he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva reached the site to see the progress. 

LoP in Delhi MCD Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh while speaking to ANI said, "It shows vileness of AAP in MCD. People are suffering because of smoke. During our (BJP) times, 25 machines were used to work here, now more than half are not working. Garbage has increased and they are finding no other ways. This seems to me as mischief by someone in association with the leaders of AAP to make contractors happy and earn money through corruption. They have nothing to do with people, this mountain of garbage is also a mountain of lies."

Residents Face Breathing Difficulty

People living near the Ghazipur landfill site spoke to ANI about the difficulties they are facing due to the smoke caused by the blaze.

A woman named Nazra said "the smoke is causing discomfort to the eyes". "We are also facing difficulties in breathing. The entire colony is disturbed.”

Another local resident said, "We have been facing this problem since the 1990s. We are dealing with diabetes, BP, thyroid and irritation in the eyes. Even small children are suffering due to it... We are having irritation in the eyes. We are not able to go out... No one is paying attention to our problems, be it the Delhi government or the central government."
