The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has sent a notice to the Delhi Police after it received a complaint regarding sale of objectionable pictures of Hindu goddesses online, as per an official statement. DCW chief Swati Maliwal issued the notice to Delhi Police and sought a report on the action taken in the matter.
"The complainant has alleged that some persons are selling online pornographic pictures of Hindu goddesses and that he has been receiving some email regarding the same. The alleged email also contains some sample pictures of goddesses depicted in an obscene manner," the DCW statement said.
“This act is extremely disrespectful and has the potential of hurting religious sentiments and causing enmity among groups. This is a very serious matter,” it added.
In its letter to the Delhi Police, the DCW has sought a copy of the FIR registered in connection with the case, details of the accused arrested, and steps taken by the police to remove the said content from the internet and stop its circulation.
A senior police official told PTI that they have received the complaint and an investigation has been taken up.
“We received a complaint that a man sells objectionable and obscene photos of Hindu Gods and Goddesses made using Photoshop to people for money,” Maliwal said in a post on X.
“A notice has been sent to the police to immediately arrest the man who committed this disgusting and shameless act. Will not leave this man,” she added.
