'Easy To Throw Political Opponents In Jail But...': Manish Sisodia Pens Open Letter From Prison

In his letter, Manish Sisodia wrote that while it is much easier to throw political opponents in jail, providing quality education to children is a difficult task.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who has been in judicial custody since February 26, following his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on alleged corruption charges related to the Delhi excise policy, penned an open letter on Thursday about the "Politics of Education" vs "Politics of Jail". Sisodia, who is also a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, alleged that the BJP has a problem with politics of education as it "builds nations, not leaders".

In the letter, Sisodia wrote that while it is much easier to throw political opponents in jail, giving quality education to children is a difficult task. He argued that the future belongs to the politics of education, and although it may not be an easy recipe for political success, it is essential for the development of nations.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal shared a copy of the letter on Twitter and said: "BJP does politics of putting people in jail, we are doing politics of educating children. It is easy to send to jail, very difficult to teach children. The nation will progress by education, not by sending to jail."

Earlier, Kejriwal said that Centre is trying to keep his former deputy Manish Sisodia in jail at all costs. He said that first, Sisodia was arrested by the CBI, which found no evidence against him. So now, the Enforcement Directorate has placed him under arrest.

The ED placed Manish Sisodia under arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case earlier on Thursday. The ED, which is investigating the money laundering angle in the liquor policy case, questioned Sisodia for about 45 minutes in Tihar Jail before placing him under arrest. The development came a day ahead of his bail hearing in the liquor policy case filed by CBI.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 for suspected corruption relating to the creation and implementation of the Delhi liquor or excise policy for 2021-22, which was later cancelled. He is currently in judicial custody until March 20. However, Sisodia has filed a bail application which is scheduled to be heard on March 10.

During his custody, the CBI questioned Sisodia alongside his former secretary C Arvind and former Excise Commissioner Arava Gopi Krishna, with regards to the suspected manipulation of the excise policy.
