New Delhi: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed several times by a man in south Delhi's Lado Sarai area on Thursday, news agency PTI quoted police as saying. The 27-year-old accused was arrested at the spot, police said.
According to the report, the woman was stabbed 13 times on her face, thighs and fingers. She is undergoing treatment and is out of danger, doctors said.
Police said the woman was in relation with the accused earlier. The man allegedly stabbed her after she started avoiding him.
A purported video, the veracity of which could not be confirmed by the news agency, went viral on the social media. In the video, a woman can be seen inside a cab with blood all over her body and the car. She can be heard pleading the passersby to take her to a hospital.
In the viral clip, the cab driver can be heard saying that when he came for the pick-up, the woman and the accused person were sitting inside the car. Later, he attacked her.
“At 6.20 am, a PCR call was received from Lado Sarai, Firni Road that a woman was stabbed by a man. Police reached the spot where the victim, a resident of Lado Sarai, was found. Inquiry revealed that she and the accused were in a relationship for the last two years,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chandan Chowdhary told PTI.
Police said the accused spoke to the girl on Wednesday after which she blocked his number. Since he could not contact her over the phone, he came to meet her at 5.30 am on Thursday. They spoke for a while and after she sat in the cab which she had booked, the man attacked her with a knife, police said, as reported by PTI. The cab driver caught the accused.
According to the accused, the woman refused to talk to him and allegedly slapped him a few times. She kept arguing and in a fit of rage he stabbed her, police said as reported by the news agency.
Reacting to the incident, DCW chief Swati Maliwal posted on X, “The day it seems Delhi has witnessed the worst possible crime, the very next day, something even more horrific happens. The law and order situation was fine only till the G20 Summit.”
The accused has been arrested and a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) will be registered, police said.
