Distressed by the suicide of her lover, a 30-year-old woman died allegedly after setting herself on fire in her room here, police said on Tuesday.


A police official while talking to the news agency PTI said that she died on Tuesday evening while undergoing treatment at Safdarjung hospital.


Inspector Sunita, SHO of Sector 37 police station while talking to PTI said, "The woman immolated herself late Sunday night. She was taken to the Civil Hospital in a critical condition and was referred to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital where she died during treatment late Tuesday evening." 


As per the police official, no suicide note was found in her room during the investigation. 


Delhi Police identified the deceased as Manju, who hailed from Bihar and worked at a private company while living in a rented accommodation in Sector 37 area.


During the investigation, police found that she was having an affair with a married man named Babulal who was a grocery shop operator. He had allegedly shot himself dead on Sunday evening with an illegal gun, reported PTI.


After knowing about her lover's death, she drenched herself in Kerosene and then lit herself up ablaze late Sunday night. The SHO said that the post-mortem of Manju will be conducted on Wednesday.

Earlier, in another incident in Delhi, a 42-year-old married woman killed her husband, 47, with the help of her lover Rajesh, 33, who was also married. Both had an affair to which the husband objected. Post his objection, both lovers strangled him to death on March 19. 

According to the police, the woman left for her maternal home in Sonepat, Haryana, on March 18 with her two children after informing her lover Rajesh of her husband's routine and whereabouts. Later after being interrogated regarding the matter, Rajesh confessed to killing the 47-year-old.
