Delhi Water Crisis: Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi, who was on an indefinite hunger strike against the Haryana government demanding Delhi’s share of water, has been admitted to the hospital after her health condition deteriorated amid the strike.
The Delhi Minister has been admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital in the national capital in the early hours of Tuesday. Atishi's indefinite hunger strike entered its fifth day on Tuesday. She said that Haryana is not releasing Delhi's share of water.
According to the minister, the residents in the national capital are reeling under a water crisis because Haryana is not releasing 100 million gallons per day (MGD) of water. Atishi began her indefinite hunger strike on June 22.
Speaking on Atishi's health, Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of LNJP Hospital said, "When Atishi was brought to the hospital, her blood sugar was low. She was drowsy and her sodium level was also low. She has been admitted to the Emergency ICU. She is currently on IV fluids. Her vital parameters are stable right now. Some blood tests have been done, the reports are awaited..."
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that doctors have advised the Delhi Minister to be admitted to a hospital in view of her deteriorating health, but she is fighting for the city's rightful share of water by "risking her life."
According to the AAP press release, Atishi’s health checkup was done, and it was revealed that her blood pressure and sugar levels dropped drastically. The speed with which Atishi's blood sugar level and blood pressure have dropped has been described by doctors as dangerous, the AAP said.
"Her blood sugar level dropped to 43 at midnight and to 36 at 3 AM, after which LNJP Hospital doctors advised immediate hospitalization. She has not eaten anything for the last five days and is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding Haryana government to release Delhi's share of water. She's been admitted in the emergency ICU at LNJP. We pray for her speedy recovery," the AAP said in a post on X.
In another post on X, the AAP expressed concern over the Delhi minister's health. "It is a matter of great concern for all of us
@AtishiAAP ji's condition has deteriorated, his sugar level is 43. Doctors advise that he should be admitted to the hospital immediately," the AAP said.
Atishi's Health Bulletin
Meanwhile, the medical bulletin of the Delhi Water Minister surfaced on Monday. According to the bulletin, "A medical team from Lok Nayak Hospital came for medical examination of Atishi at Bhogal. The patient has been counselled for admission and oral-intake, but the patient denied getting admitted.”
On Monday, Atishi said that she would continue her despite adverse health effects until Haryana released the "rightful share of Delhi's water". The AAP leader's indefinite hunger strike entered fourth day on Monday.
"My blood pressure and sugar levels are dropping and my weight has gone down. Ketone level is very high which can have harmful effects in the long run. No matter how much my body suffers, I will continue the fast till Haryana releases water," she said. In a video message, the Delhi minister said she was medically examined by doctors on Sunday.
