Despite the relief in downpour in Delhi the Yamuna continues to swell casuing flooding in the several areas of the national capital. Flood water entered Sushruta Trauma Centre at Metcalf Road in Delhi where 40 patients were admitted including three on ventilators. Trauma Centre MD Dr Suresh Kumarare said that the patients are being shifted to LNJP hospital, as reported by ANI. Train services have also been hit because of the rising water level of the Yamuna. On train services after rainfall, General Manager of Northern Railways Shobhan Chaudhuri said that the Kalka-Shimla line was closed on July 9.


He also said that on July 9 and 10, maximum services were closed in the Ambala division, and between the Jalandhar-Firozepur division, as reported by ANI.

  • Shobhan Chaudhuri also said that the train services had been terminated and as soon as the water will recede an inspection of the tracks and bridges will be conducted to ensure proper functioning.   

  •  No changes recorded in the water level of river Yamuna in the past one hour. The water level at 1 pm was recorded as 208.62 metres, it was found to be the same even at 2 pm, ANI reported.

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said some areas of Delhi will face a water crisis as three water treatment plants are being closed due to the rising levels of the Yamuna.

  • As the water level of the Yamuna continues to rise in Delhi following heavy rainfall and the release of water from Hathnikund Barrage, several areas of the national capital, including the Civil Lines area, were left reeling under floods and waterlogging. The Delhi Traffic Police on Thursday issued an advisory on the restrictions and regulation of vehicular movement in place owing to the rising water level.

  • According to the traffic advisory, traffic movement has been impaired on Mahatma Gandhi Marg between the IP flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat, and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara.

  • At around 10 AM, the water level of Yamuna reached at 208.53 meter and it is expected to go up to 208.75 meter by 4 PM today. The nearby streets, public and private infrastructure in the city were inundated, causing immense hardships to people living in close proximity to the river.

  • Lt Governor V K Saxena has also called a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority on Thursday. Kejriwal urged the Centre to intervene and the city police imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in flood-prone areas to prevent unlawful assembly of four or more people and public movement in groups, as reported by PTI.

  • In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Kejriwal requested that the water from the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana be released slowly and pointed out that Delhi is set to host the G20 Summit meeting in a few weeks.

  • Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj took stock of relief measures. To assess the preparedness of relief and rescue operations, Atishi visited the flood relief camps at Mayur Vihar and Millennium Depot and interacted with the affected people. Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Minister of Irrigation and Flood Control, took a motorboat tour of various parts of the Yamuna in the Civil Lines area of the city.
