New Delhi: In a significant drug bust, authorities have confiscated approximately 900 kg of Mephedrone, commonly known as "Meow Meow," from two sites in south Delhi, with an estimated value exceeding Rs 2,000 crore. The seizure was made following raids by officials from the Pune and Delhi police forces on Tuesday, targeting areas in Kotla Mubarakpur and Hauz Khas.
Pune, City CP Amitesh Kumar said, "Approx 720 kg MD has been recovered from across the city in the ongoing case, in another operation in Delhi approx 970 kg of contraband has been recovered. Both these recovered items have an estimated market value of Rs 3000-3500 cr. A courier agency is behind this through which these drugs are supplied in ready and processed food packets, accused is held... Eight accused have been arrested so far... Information is coming that a few of these couriers were sent to London..."
The operation in Delhi was initiated based on intelligence provided by the Pune Police, who are investigating a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant known for its association with rave party culture and euphoric effects, is commonly referred to as "Meow Meow" on the streets, according to a senior police officer, reported PTI.
Over the past two days, raids were conducted both in Pune and the national capital, resulting in the seizure of a total of 1,100 kg of Mephedrone valued at Rs 2,500 crore in the international market.
On Tuesday, a team of the Pune Police's Crime Branch requested for a joint raid in connection with the case registered under the NDPS Act in Pune. It had already arrested three people and seized Mephedrone, the officer said. Subsequently, acting on information provided by the detainees, a raid was conducted at Kotla Mubarakpur in Delhi, leading to the seizure of approximately 300 kg of Mephedrone and the arrest of two individuals, as per PTI.
On further interrogation, around 600 kg of Mephadrone was seized recovered from a rented shop in Masjid Moth in Hauz Khas. The room and the shop were recently taken on rent, the officer said.
