New Delhi: Amid ruckus by some councillors caused the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House to be adjourned on Tuesday without electing a mayor or deputy mayor, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday asked the BJP to accept their defeat in the MCD elections and contribute to the smooth running of the mayoral elections. Sisodia said, "We demand that the MCD House be reconvened and mayoral election be held today only."

He stated that the BJP should accept their defeat in the MCD elections and ensure an orderly mayor's election.

The House was adjourned for 15 minutes after the oaths of aldermen and elected councillors. During this time, a number of BJP councillors began to enter the House, chanting "Modi, Modi," and raising slogans against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Senior AAP leader Sisodia also said that the BJP was "running away from the election of mayor."

"Everyone saw the drama of the BJP. The public had got fed up with their rule in the MCD. They gave mountains of garbage to Delhi and ruined the entire capital," Sisodia said.

"First, they avoided MCD elections and when the public has showed them the door, they are running away from the election of mayor," he said.

The BJP is aware that an AAP mayor will complete tasks more quickly than it could. He stated that this is not democratic.

Meanwhile, Delhi municipal council members took the oath in a variety of languages, including Hindi, English, Urdu, Punjabi, Maithili, and Sanskrit, demonstrating the country's linguistic diversity.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was unable to elect a mayor after the oath-taking ceremony because its proceedings were postponed. This was the second time that the new House convened for the mayoral election but was unable to complete the process.

Some councillors chose to read the oath in English, while others chose to read it in Punjabi, Urdu, Sanskrit, and even Maithili. The majority of councillors took the oath in Hindi.

Shelly Oberoi, an AAP mayoral candidate, and Rekha Gupta, a BJP candidate, took their oaths in Hindi.

When Oberoi stepped onto the dais, her party colleagues gave her a desk thud and chanted "Jai Hind, Jai Bharat" as she took the oath.
