Delhi LG Vinay Kumar Saxena on Monday approved the convening of the meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on 24th January. The sitting of the house is purposed to allow oath of affirmation to elected councillors, the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor and six members to the Standing Committee, reported ANI.

The session will begin at 11 am with the swearing-in of the elected councilors. Once the oath-taking is completed, the House will proceed with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections.

This comes after the mayoral elections were postponed following chaos in the Delhi civic centre over the appointments of aldermen in the house.

In the previous sitting, LG Saxena appointed BJP's Satya Sharma as the presiding officer to conduct the election which was heavily opposed by the AAP leaders. They alleged that LG is missing his power to appoint BJP members aldermen. AAP also protested over Satya Sharma's decision to call the nominated members first for the oath-taking ceremony.

The scuffle increased resulting in the postponement of the elections till further notice.

Delhi Assembly Session

The first day of the winter session of the Delhi assembly witnessed massive chaos within minutes of its sitting as AAP MLAs marched into the well of the house and shouted slogans against Delhi LG Vinay Saxena.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal took out a march along with Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and AAP MLAs against LG Vinay Saxena for allegedly interfering in the government's work.

CM Kejriwal said that the LG did not allow to send Delhi teachers to Finland for training.

The party said that attempt is being made to defame Arvind Kejriwal and "we are not being allowed to work".

However, according to the news agency ANI, it is reiterated that the Delhi LG has not rejected the proposal for training program for Primary-in-charges in Finland. Any statement, on the contrary, is deliberately misleading and mischievously motivated, it added.

"The Government has been advised to evaluate the proposal in totality and record the cost-benefit analysis in terms of impact on the quality of education being provided to students, so as to assess the effectiveness of various foreign training programs for teachers undertaken in the past," ANI reported citing sources.

"LG has also advised examining and identifying similar training programmes in the Institutions of Excellence, within the country, so as to ensure optimal utilization of resources, fiscal prudence and administrative effectiveness," it added.
