A large portion of a road collapsed in Delhi's Janakpuri area, the police said on Wednesday morning. However, no injury has been reported yet, news agency ANI reported. People were seen standing around a large portion of the road which caved in, the police ercted barricades around the part of the road which had collapsed to alert traffic using the road. They said the incident occurred on Tuesday night and barricades have been erected around the spot to avert any mishap. 






This disrupted the traffic and caused congestion in the area, as cars were seen moving slower from the now narrow path. No official advisory has been released yet. The traffic police department said it has received information about congestion from Pankha Road in Janakpuri and on the road coming from Mangolpuri towards Janakpuri.


Visuals of the cave-in are doing the rounds on social media. The national capital recorded 0.2 mm rainfall in a 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Wednesday. According to police, the area was cordoned off timely and no mishap was reported. The department concerned has been informed so that repairs can be undertaken.

According to a Hindustan Times report, heavy vehicles were diverted via other routes. Public Works Department (PWD) was not able to confirm why or how the cave-in occurred.


In March, a similar incident occurred near Hauz Rani Red Light on Press Enclave Road. In a photo uploaded by Delhi Traffic Police in its advisory, a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) was stuck in a pothole formed after the road caved in which affected the traffic. This was following heavy rainfall and waterlogging.
