The Meteorological Department has issued a severe heat wave warning for North-West India over the next five days. Along with this, heat wave conditions are expected to persist in Central and Eastern India for the next three days. It has also issued a 'red alert' on Saturday over the next two days predicting severe heat in many parts of the national capital. This comes after the city recorded 43.7 degrees Celsius, marking this season's hottest day so far.


In this city, Mungeshpur recorded the highest maximum temperature at 46.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Najafgarh noting 46.7 degrees Celsius, Pitampura at 46.2 degrees Celsius, Pusa at 46 degrees Celsius, Aya Nagar at 45.2 degrees Celsius, and Palam 44.2 degrees Celsius.


As per IMD reports, it is expected that the extreme heat will impact large parts of North-West India, particularly affecting Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. 






IMD Issues ‘Red Alert’ For Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, And Western Rajasthan


The Meteorological Department has highlighted Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana with red color in the heatwave alert, urging residents and officials to take necessary precautions. Eastern Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh are marked in orange, advising people to stay alert and prepared for high temperatures. The mercury surpassed 45 degrees Celsius in 19 locations in Rajasthan, 18 in Haryana, eight in Delhi, and two places in Punjab.






Additionally, the department has issued a "red alert" for Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and western Rajasthan, advising "extra care for vulnerable individuals." An "orange alert" has been issued for East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, emphasising the importance of protecting vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

 Rainfall In Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala 


Whereas the Rayalaseema and coastal region of Andhra Pradesh received scattered rainfall in the past 24 hours. IMD predicts that, for the next five days this area will continue experiencing thunderstorms and lightning.


Amaravati Meteorological Centre Scientist, Dr Karuna Sagar says, "In the past 24 hours in Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema received scattered rainfall and coastal Andhra Pradesh also received scattered rainfall... Coming to today's situation, yesterday there was a cyclonic circulation over Rayalaseema... Hence, today we are expecting only heavy rainfall over Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh."




"In Rayalaseema, today and tomorrow we are going to expect scattered rainfall and thereafter we are going to expect isolated rainfall... Over coastal Andhra Pradesh, today we are expecting scattered rainfall, and rest of the days we are expecting only isolated rainfall. But from today to the next five days, we are expecting thunderstorm lightning... So today we are expecting heavy rainfall in Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh," he also said, ANI reported.


IMD forecasted isolated heavy rainfall in the Coastal area of Karnataka from 19th-22nd, South Interior Karnataka from 21st-22nd, and, heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala from 19th-21st May. It also expected that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into the South Andaman Sea, some areas of Southeast Bay of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands in the next 48 hours.
