Delhi-NCR received a fresh spell of rain early on Saturday, which triggered major waterlogging in several areas. The showers brought some of the much-sought relief from the intense heat that the city had been experiencing for the past few days. According to news agency PTI, the national capital recorded 13 mm of rainfall by 8:30 AM. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy skies with light to moderate showers during the day. The weather department said the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 34 degrees Celsius.
The waterlogged roads slowed down the daily life in Delhi and Gurugram as people were seen wading through the knee-deep waters on Saturday.
The Mundka underpass was heavily waterlogged making it almost impossible for vehicles to pass by. Motorcyclists were seen pulling their vehicles through the water.
In Gurugram, certain parts were submerged almost till the waist. The waterlogged Delhi-Gurugram Expressway made daily commute very difficult.
Visuals of flooded streets were being widely shared on social media. The present waterlogging comes at a time when Delhi is recovering from a recent fight with floods. Earlier this week, the Yamuna was again reported to have been flowing above the danger level. However, officials assured that it was nothing to worry about as the situation is under control.
Roads in Vasant Kunj were also covered with water after Saturday's heavy showers.
Delhi shattered a 41-year record when the national capital received heavy two-days rain last month. According to PTI, the city recorded 153 mm of rain in 24 hours, the highest in a single day in July since 1982, the Indian Meteorological Office said.
