The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Thursday following the continuous rise in the water level in the Yamuna, which has severely affected the traffic movement in the city. In the advisory, the city’s Traffic Police have advised commuters to avoid certain routes due to waterlogging and flood situations. Massive traffic snarl seen in Sarai Kale Khan area today, due to traffic diversion following waterlogging in different parts of the city.
According to the advisory, residents have been asked to avoid the following roads: Mahatma Gandhi Marg between IP Flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat, and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara.
The movement of commercial vehicles has been regulated in the national capital to regulate the traffic. As per the advisory, Non-destined commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi. They will be diverted to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressway. To regulate traffic, commercial vehicles will be diverted from Mukarba Chowk and no such vehicle will be allowed between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad Bridge.
The advisory further stated that commercial vehicles will be diverted from Sarai Kale Khan and no such vehicle will be allowed between Sarai Kale Khan and IP Flyover. Commercial vehicles will also be diverted from the Ghazipur border and from Akshardham towards DND.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that the government and private schools in the national capital will be closed in the areas which are affected by waterlogging. "Closing all government and private schools in the areas where there is water-logging," Kejriwal said in a tweet.
