Delhi Crime News: In the Nand Nagri area of northeast Delhi, a 44-year-old man allegedly shot and killed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Dinesh Sharma and shot two others before killing himself. According to police, the episode began with multiple gunshots reported around 11:40 am near the Meet Nagar Flyover, that killed ASI Dinesh Sharma and injured another person. 


North East DCP Joy Tirkey said, "Today morning around 11.42 am, a call was made to PS Nand Nagari after which the call was transferred to PS Jyoti Nagar. Both SHOs reached the spot. Three people were hit with bullets, two of whom were victims, and one was the accused, who shot himself in the head. We are verifying the sequence of events".


"He shot one person on the Meet Nagar flyover, then climbed down and shot one person sitting on his scooter. He then shot himself in the head while sitting in an auto. We have recovered a 7.65 mm pistol. The crime team and FSL team are present at the spot... We are investigating. It is too early to say anything", as per ANI.






Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sharma was posted to the Special Branch of the Delhi Police and was travelling on his motorcycle during the incident. Alongside him, Amit Kumar (30), riding his scooter, also fell victim to the accused, identified as Mukesh, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey. "Mukesh was a resident of Nand Nagri area of northeast Delhi", Police said. 


An eyewitness detailed Mukesh's subsequent attempt to flee the scene by boarding an auto-rickshaw, only to be refused by the driver. In a desperate bid to evade capture, Mukesh fired at the auto-rickshaw driver, who somehow escaped. As onlookers gathered, Mukesh ultimately took his own life. A 7.65 mm pistol was found on the rear seat of TSR. Multiple live rounds and empty shells were also found at the 3 spots on the Flyover. 


According to an eye-witness cited by PTI, Mukesh first shot dead Sharma and then shot Kumar who was injured on his leg. He then boarded an auto-rickshaw and asked him to take him away from the spot. However, the driver refused and the accused fired at him, but he escaped unhurt. When the crowd started gathering on the spot, he shot himself dead, the eye-witness said.

The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination, while the injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, where he remains in critical condition, according to police sources.


Authorities registered a case encompassing charges of murder, attempt to murder, and violations under the Arms Act against the accused at the Jyoti Nagar police station station and started further investigation into the matter, the DCP said.
