As a Delhi Court permitted CBI to question BRS MLC and the daughter of the former Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao K Kavitha, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday said that many layers are yet to be unfolded in the Delhi liquor policy scam. According to Sachdeva, many more faces are to be "unmasked" soon.
"Many layers are being unfolded in the liquor scam. When CBI will interrogate K Kavitha, I think many things will come out, many more faces will be unmasked," he said, as reported by ANI.
On Friday, a Delhi court allowed the CBI to question Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha, who is currently in Tihar jail arrested in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy case.
According to reports from Bar and Bench, the central agency had approached the court seeking permission to interrogate BRS MLC pertaining to the evidence found during further investigation.
The CBI had highlighted that chats retrieved from the phone of Buchi Babu, a chartered accountant linked with Kavitha, along with documents related to a land deal. According to CBI, the chats indicated the alleged payment of ₹100 crore in bribes to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as kickbacks.
Considering the submissions made, the court granted the application made by the CBI. The BRC MLC's arrest is based on her alleged involvement in a money laundering case which is linked to the Delhi government's, now scrapped, excise policy.
On 15, Kavitha was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate. The ED had claimed that she was part of a group of liquor traders known as the "South Group". According to ED, she attempted to influence the now-defunct Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.
As per the ED, Kavitha, and others (involved in the case), paid kickbacks amounts to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's party in exchange for favourable treatment. These "treatments" included a major share of liquor licenses in the national capital under the said policy, the ED alleged.
At present, Kavitha is in judicial custody. The court is reserving its decision on her interim bail plea in the ED case. The verdict in this matter is scheduled to be announced on Monday (April 8).
