Amid the ongoing row between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Tihar Jail administration since the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP chief was on Tuesday administered insulin after his sugar level shot up. This was the first time that the Delhi CM was given insulin since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy scam.

Earlier on Monday, Kejriwal accused the Tihar Jail administration of issuing a false and misleading statement about his diabetes under political pressure, and stressed that he had been requesting insulin every day.

Welcoming the news, Delhi Cabinet minister Atishi said in a post on X, "Jai Bajrang Bali! Good news received on Hanuman Jayanti. Tihar administration finally gave insulin to Arvind Kejriwal ji. This is the result of the blessings of Hanuman ji and the struggle of the people of Delhi. Even in this time of struggle, the blessings of Bajrang Bali remain on all of us."

Singh's cabinet colleague Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the Tihar jail officials were deliberately not giving Kejriwal insulin.

In a post on X, Bharaswaj wrote, "Today it became clear that the chief minister was right, he needed insulin. But the officials under the BJP-led Centre were deliberately not treating him. Tell me BJP people! If there was no need for insulin, why are they giving it now? Because the whole world is cursing them."

The AAP supremo was given two units of low dose insulin on Monday evening on the advice of AIIMS doctors, news agency PTI reported citing a Tihar official.

"His blood sugar level reading was found to be 217 around 7 pm, following which the doctors at Tihar looking after him decided to give him the insulin," the report quoted the official as saying.

"During a video conference with the Delhi CM on April 20, AIIMS specialists had advised Tihar doctors that insulin could be given to him if his sugar level crosses a certain level," he added.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government's now-scrapped excise policy. Since April 1 he has been lodged in Tihar jail.
