Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Tuesday said that there was a need to work together to tackle the pollution menace in the national capital and adjoining areas rather than indulging in blame-game. She also briefed on the measure being taken by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to subside the pollution as the air quality remained in the “severe” category in the city.
"...Instead of the blame game, we all should be working together on the issue of pollution...In MCD, around 517 teams have been formed in which more than 1100 workers as well as officials have been deployed,” the Mayor told news agency ANI.
“At ground level intense water sprinkling is being done in the morning and evening shifts through water sprinklers, anti-smog guns, and jetting machines. 13 hotspots were also identified...The best part is in the last three days...AQI has improved and pollution level has decreased," she added.
Delhiites found no respite from the pollution on Tuesday as well, as the air quality remained in “severe” category and smog engulfed the national capital.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up the Punjab government asking it to stop the stubble burning, observing that there can’t be a political battle all the time. “We want it (stubble burning) stopped. We don't know how you do it, it’s your job. But it must be stopped. Something has to be done immediately,” said the apex court.
"There cannot be a political battle every time," the bench told the counsel appearing for the Punjab government.
The SC also directed directed the state governments of Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to stop stubble burning immediately and made the local Station House Officer (SHO) responsible for implementing the court’s direction under the supervision of DGPs and the Chief Secretary.
